Vein alignment at the infrared template
The oval cut-out is positioned on the slab with an infrared template before anything is sawn, so the strongest grey vein crosses the long axis of the top rather than sitting across the waist where a seated guest faces it.
Sealing, the water-drop test and the limit of it
White marble takes around 0.3 percent of its mass in water, so a fluorocarbon penetrating sealer is applied at the works and verified by a water-drop test that shows the bead standing on the surface rather than sinking in.
Underside reinforcement against the span
Flexural strength of 8 to 20 MPa is the number that governs thickness here, so a high-strength epoxy is bonded over a fiberglass mesh matrix on the unpolished underside of any top spanning more than about 1400mm unsupported.
Constant edge radius, inserts and the crate
The edge is profiled on a 5-axis CNC bridge saw and then checked as a continuous radius round the whole oval, because the tight end curves are where a polisher burns an edge and an oval has no straight run in which to disguise a flat.
