Product Introduction
impala black granit(1)

A Nero Impala Kitchen Countertop is decided by three dimensions before it is decided by colour, and the first is the overhang: natural granite is allowed 6 inches unsupported at 2cm where 12 inches or more is cabinet-supported, and 10 inches at 3cm where 20 inches or more is supported, with supports every 24 and 36 inches beyond. Granite is given a tighter allowance than engineered quartz at the same thickness, and the reason is consistency rather than strength: a quartz slab is a manufactured plate with predictable properties, while natural stone is anisotropic and carries flaws that vary block to block, so the safe cantilever is set by the weakest slab, not the average. The second is the cutout: sink and hob openings are cut on automatic machines with radiused internal corners and a stiffened sink rail, because a square internal corner concentrates stress at exactly the point where a stone top fails, and on a run with an appliance beneath, that rail carries the load.

Products Description

Parameter Specification
Product Name Nero Impala Kitchen Countertop; Brand: YoYo Stone
Also Listed As nero impala kitchen countertop, nero impala granite, impala worktops, impala black granite, Marikana Black, Rustenburg Grey, Nero Africa Impala, Gabbro Impala, Eagle Black, Jasberg, Noir Afrique. In China: Panama Black
Stone Type A South African norite from the Bushveld Igneous Complex around Rustenburg, of Precambrian age, sold across the trade as granite. European standards classify it as a gabbro
Colour and Grain An anthracite-grey to near-black groundmass carrying black pyroxene crystals and subtly distributed silver-white plagioclase points, in a dense medium grain. Uniform, with no vein to match across a run
Mineral Composition Feldspar, pyroxene, hornblende and quartz in average percentages, with the dark minerals predominating
Countertop Thickness 30mm as standard, with 20mm on request. A built-up or laminated edge presents a thicker read without the dead load of a solid 30mm slab
Standard Sizes 2400 to 3200 x 600/630/700/900/1000/1200/1220 x 30mm (94 to 126 in x 24 to 48 in), or free length and made to your dimensions
Overhang Allowance 2cm: 6 in unsupported where 12 in or more is cabinet-supported, supports every 24 in beyond. 3cm: 10 in where 20 in or more is supported, supports every 36 in
Sink and Hob Cutouts Cut on automatic machines. Internal corners are radiused rather than cut square, and the sink rail is stiffened, because a square internal corner concentrates stress where a stone top fails
Seam Position Seams are set off the sink and hob at drawing stage and closed with epoxy matched to the stone; a uniform dark ground offers no vein to hide one in
Edge Profiles Polished with full bullnose, half bullnose, round edge or eased profiles; other profiles to your drawing
Surface Finishes Polished standard, which the material holds along its length; honed and leathered on request where fingerprints and water marks want hiding
Strength Data Compression tensile 2,940 kg/cm2 (about 288 MPa); after freeze-thaw cycles 2,820 kg/cm2 (about 276 MPa); bending 236 kg/cm2 (about 23 MPa); impact strength 58 cm
Weight and Absorption Mass by unit of volume 2,970 kg/m3, water imbibition 0.000100 or 0.01 percent. About 89 kg per square metre at 30mm and 59 kg at 20mm
Care and Use A hot pan goes on a trivet, because thermal shock at a cutout edge cracks granite. Sealer is re-applied on cycle, checked with a water bead test
Applications Kitchen countertops, island tops and vanity tops; exterior and interior wall and floor applications, monuments, mosaic, fountains and pool surrounds where the same block is used
Packing Face to face and foam faced in seaworthy strong fumigated wooden crates, edges and corners protected, with the layout numbering travelling with the crate
Quality Control Block quality read before cutting, production followed by production managers, and finished tops checked against the drawing piece by piece; photographs of the finished and loaded order
Minimum Order, Samples and Port Small trial orders accepted and mixed items consolidated in one container. Free sample with freight paid by the buyer, refunded against the order; FOB Port Xiamen, China
Payment, Lead Time and Markets T/T 30% deposit and 70% balance against the copy of B/L, or negotiation; 1 to 2 weeks for one container, about 3 weeks otherwise. Markets USA, Russia, UK and Europe

Quality Standards

Quality Control & Inspection Standards

YoYo Stone enforces a rigorous six-stage quality verification protocol for every commercial production run of Nero Impala Granite:

Block quality read before the saw

Blocks are read for colour and for the evenness of the dark groundmass, because a uniform stone magnifies any drift in tone across a long run, and the block is graded before it is committed.

01

Overhang and support checked against the cabinet drawing

The unsupported length is measured against the 6 in at 2cm and 10 in at 3cm allowance, and the bracket or corbel positions are marked on the drawing, since an overhang that grows on site is the commonest way a granite top breaks.

02

Cutout position, radius and rail

Sink and hob openings are verified for position against the appliance models, the internal corners are gauged for radius rather than squareness, and the stiffened rail is confirmed where the run carries an appliance or a heavy load beneath.

03

Seam placement and epoxy colour

The seam is checked against the drawing so it falls off the sink and the hob, and the epoxy is matched to the stone under daylight, because on a uniform dark ground a seam is closed by colour or it is visible.

04

Edge profile, thickness and dry assembly

Edges are gauged against the ordered profile, thickness is measured to +/-1mm or +/-0.5mm calibrated, and a multi-piece set is dry assembled in the works so the returns and the mitres are proven before crating.

Products Application

Typical Project & Application Scenarios

ImpalaGraniteStoneBlackRevolutionisHere

Kitchen islands with a seating overhang

Where the top runs past the cabinets for stools, the overhang is supported at 24 to 36 in centres from the outset rather than reviewed after the stone is on site.

Kitchen countertops and island tops

A 30mm Nero Impala Kitchen Countertop cut to the cabinet run, with the sink opening cut on automatic machines and the overhang checked against the 6 in and 10 in allowance before the brackets are set.

FAQ

Everything You Want To Know

nero-impala-black-granite44542733329

01. How far can a Nero Impala Kitchen Countertop overhang without support?

Six inches at 2cm where 12 inches or more is cabinet-supported, and 10 inches at 3cm where 20 inches or more is supported. Beyond that, supports go in every 24 to 36 inches. Granite is allowed less than engineered quartz at the same thickness.

02. Why is a sink cutout the weak point in a granite countertop?

Because a square internal corner concentrates stress at the point where the top opens. Openings are cut on automatic machines with radiused internal corners and a stiffened sink rail, which matters most where an appliance or a heavy load sits beneath the run.

03. Why does the seam matter more on Nero Impala than on a veined stone?

Because it is uniform. On a veined stone a seam is normally buried in a vein, but a fine dark ground offers nowhere to hide one, so the seam is positioned off the sink and the hob at the drawing stage and closed with epoxy coloured to the stone.

04. Is Nero Impala really a granite?

Commercially yes and petrographically no. It is a norite from the Bushveld Igneous Complex near Rustenburg in South Africa, and European standards classify it as a gabbro. The trade uses granite for the family, which is why the name varies by market.

05. What does a 30mm Nero Impala top weigh, and how is it packed?

About 89 kg per square metre at 30mm against 59 kg at 20mm, so a 30mm top adds roughly half again the dead load. Tops are foam faced and crated face to face in seaworthy fumigated cases, edges protected and numbered to the room.
