Product Introduction

A pool coping unit is three pieces of work in one: a top face that is walked on when wet, a nose that hands hang from, and a vertical face that is seen from the water on one side and from the deck on the other. New G654 is the dark grey granite the units are cut from, and it also travels under its Cambodian trade name, as Padang Dark and as Sesame Black; the block behind a run comes from a quarry the company has invested in, which is what makes it possible to hold one block open for a project and cut the whole ring from it rather than filling a curve from whatever is on the floor.
Standard units run at 500x350, 600x350, 800x350 and 500x500 mm, in 20, 30 or 50 mm, with the profile chosen from the wall detail: bullnose where the nose is left rounded, square where it is kept crisp, and drop face where the coping has to cover the junction between the pool wall and the surrounding deck.

Quality Standards
A curved coping run is accepted in a different order from a straight one, because the unit that fails here is usually shaped correctly and placed wrongly. Each piece is a trapezoid cut to one radius and one position, so what has to be checked is the taper at the back, the number that ties the piece to its place in the ring, whether the formed nose runs true along the drawn arc, whether flatness holds once the pieces are stood together in sequence, and whether the drop face keeps one depth the whole way round. Acceptance is therefore a property of the ring, and a single unit gauged against the sample cannot demonstrate any of it.

01
Taper Cut To Radius
The taper at the back is cut to the pool-side radius on the approved drawing rather than eased on site, because a straight piece on a 3 m radius opens about 58 mm at the back and no joint material will hold that.
02
Numbered By Ring Position
Every unit carries the number of the place it occupies in the ring and is packed in that sequence, since a trapezoid fits one place only and a correctly gauged piece delivered to the wrong position has to be re-cut.
03
Nose True To The Curve
The formed nose is checked for run against the drawn arc after the taper has been cut, because a nose formed parallel to a back edge that is no longer straight wanders in and out of the water line by the whole width of the taper.
04
Flatness Read On The Ring
Flatness is read with the pieces stood in their ring order rather than one at a time, since a reading that passes on every single unit can still accumulate into a lip where two neighbours meet on the curve.
Products Application
Typical Project & Application Scenarios
Free-Form Pools and Long Radii
A free-form pool is a set of radii of different lengths joined by short reversals, and it is where the arithmetic earns its keep, because the same pool needs a different taper on every arc.
Raised Walls and Drop-Face Coping
A raised pool wall adds a third visible face to a unit that already has two, and the profile has to be settled before the order is cut, not after the wall is up.

Spas and Plunge Pools at Tight Radii
A spa or a plunge pool is the case that breaks a straight-unit job, because the radius at the pool edge is small enough that the opening at the back of a rectangular piece runs past anything a joint can absorb.
Coping Returns and Internal Corners
A coping run that changes direction is the part of the job most often left to the installer, and it is the part with the least tolerance for improvisation.
FAQ
Everything You Want To Know

01. How do I work out how many coping pieces a curved pool needs?
02. Do you cut the coping tapered to my radius?
03. What width of coping should a curved pool use?
04. What is the difference between bullnose and drop-face coping?
05. How is curved coping packed, and how long does a container take?
Units are crated in ring order, and the pallets are fumigated to ISPM 15, with the load secured against the container structure instead of the doors. A 20 ft container is typically ready about three weeks after confirmation.
