Product Introduction
Dark Grey Granite Pool Tiles

Pool tiles in New G654 are cut from a fine-grained granite with a cold grey ground and no veining, and the reason the material holds a pool edge so well is the same reason it punishes careless detailing: a face this even shows every irregularity in the geometry set against it. The tiles are produced at 10x30, 30x30, 30x60 and 40x60 cm with a bullnose or half bullnose formed on the long edge, and the coping pieces that sit on top of them run to 50x35, 60x35, 80x35 and 50x50 cm.

The stone travels under several names in the trade, Cambodia G654 among them, and the identity that matters commercially is New G654 as distinct from Old G654, which came out of Changtai in Fujian and stopped being quarried at scale in 2018; the two are different materials and are not interchangeable on a pool deck.

Quality Standards

Quality Control & Inspection Standards

A pool edge is not accepted as a stone, because the pieces that fail there are rarely the ones that failed at the saw.

What gets checked is whether the nose radius repeats along a whole course, whether the pieces that will sit together at the waterline were selected from one run at the works rather than matched afterwards, whether the face being loaded is the face the client approved, and whether the course is still square and unmarked at the far end of the voyage. Each of those is a property of the course rather than of the piece, which is why the inspection is run in that order here.

product-1-1

01

Infrared Cut Alignment

Every cut is set to an infrared line on the bridge saw instead of being marked and followed by eye, because the nose radius and the joint face of a 300 mm pool tile have to repeat along a course, and a millimetre of drift at the saw shows as a wavy edge once the pieces are laid.

02

Pool Course Trial Set

The coping course and its waterline band are laid out dry to the pool drawing on the shop floor before anything is packed, since pieces that will sit side by side in one course have to be drawn from a single run here rather than matched on the deck after shipment.

3

Gloss Read After Washing

Gloss is taken at 90 or above on polished production only after the face has been washed and dried down, because a waxed or water-darkened surface carries a false reading, while the flamed and brushed pool face is judged for even texture instead of for gloss.

04

Fumigation And Bracing

Crates are fumigated to ISPM 15 and the load is braced inside the container against the crate frames rather than against the doors, because a coping course that shifts in transit arrives with damaged noses that cannot be re-cut at the far end.

Products Application

Typical Project & Application Scenarios

Waterline Bands and Caulk Joints

This is the band the water level runs up and down, and it is the one part of a pool interior that has to be both decorative and correctly jointed.

Swimmers' Hand-Rest and Entry Steps

A coping nose is where swimmers put their hands, and entry steps take the same profile because a stepped edge is used in the same way.

Lap Pools and Competition Tanks

A competition tank tightens the tolerances rather than changing the material, because a pool edge is a measured line and not only a finish.

Infinity Edges and Wet-Deck Overflows

An infinity edge is the application where the coping stops being a border and becomes the weir, because the water level is set by the top of the stone and by nothing else.

FAQ

Everything You Want To Know

granite marble cambodia

01.  Is New G654 the same stone as G654?

No. Old G654 was quarried at Changtai in Fujian and stopped being worked at scale in 2018. New G654 is a separate material sold as Cambodia G654, Padang Dark and Sesame Black. The two are different stones and are not interchangeable.

02.  Which finish should pool tiles and coping have?

Flamed and brushed, because a wet barefoot surround needs grip before it needs sheen and the pair reads around R11 to R12 on the wet DIN 51130 ramp. A polished face suits a vertical or indoor application, and gloss is only measured on polished production.

03. What thickness should pool coping be?

Twenty millimetres where the piece is fully bedded and the nose is supported, 30 mm as the general pool thickness, and 50 mm where the edge should read as substantial or the deck takes trolleys and plant.

04. Does pool coping need an expansion joint?

Yes, and two of them. A decoupling joint runs across the top of the bond beam so the deck moves independently of the shell, and a flexible sealant line sits under the coping nose at the top of the waterline band. Neither should be grouted rigid.

05.  Will a dark grey pool edge show marks?

It hides algae far better than a pale stone does, and it shows the opposite: limescale and efflorescence from evaporating water dry to a pale bloom, and a light sealant reads as a bright line against the dark face. Both are maintenance items rather than defects.
