Product Introduction

nero-santiago-granite-tile-1-17862-b

Nero Santiago granite is the trade name under which G302, a mid-grey Chinese granite, is sold into the USA, the EU, the Middle East, Australia and Canada, and the same stone also travels as Sesame Grey and Landscape Grey, which is why two buyers can order one material and describe it as two different stones. It is quarried in China as a fine, even speckle of light and dark minerals on a mid-grey ground, with no directional figure and no through-veining, which is what lets a paving field be laid in any order without a visible break in the pattern. The name has to be settled before the sample is approved, because Nero is the Latin for black and G302 is not a black granite: the ground is grey, and on the flamed+brushed finish that most paving is bought in it reads lighter again. That is the second point a buyer has to hold, because flamed+brushed is two passes and not one: the flame opens and pales the surface, the brushes take the crazed skin back off, and the delivered tone is the product of the two settings together.

Quality Standards

Quality Control & Inspection Standards

On a flamed+brushed Nero Santiago granite the acceptance question is never whether the stone is grey, because it is, but whether this pallet reads the same as the sealed batch sample when both are turned to the same angle under one light. Grey carries no anchor of its own: run the eye down a delivered stack in shade and then in sun and one paving will read two tones, and neither reading is wrong. The four checks below are taken in that order, each one against the sealed sample rather than against a photograph.

01

Flame pass logged by burner travel

The burner strips surface moisture and bursts the crystal faces, so a flamed face is paler than the sawn face behind it and the tone is set by travel speed rather than by the block.

02

Brush pass sets tooth and final tone

Wire brushes take off the crazed, chalky skin the flame leaves behind. Stop short and the paving arrives dusty and half a shade light; run the brushes too long and the peaks polish back down and the paving loses the tooth that keeps it walkable when wet.

03

Batch match by cutting order

Paving is laid by bundle, and a second container is matched to the first by cutting and finishing in one batch, numbering the bundles and logging the burner and brush settings, because a top-up order of Nero Santiago granite pulled from a different week will not sit beside the first.

04

Tolerance, crating and loading record

Thickness is checked at +/-1 mm on cut-to-size and +/-0.5 mm on calibrated tile, arrises are eased and squared, and the order travels on eco-friendly pallets in a fumigated hardwood crate with the batch photographs inside.

Products Application

Typical Project & Application Scenarios

Driveways, forecourts and vehicle crossings

Flamed+brushed G302 is bought for vehicle surfaces because the tooth survives tyre scrub, and the module is chosen against the wheel track so the joints fall outside the running line.

Garden paving, patios and pathways

Grey granite paving stones at 600x300 and 600x600 mm for residential landscaping, laid on a compacted sub-base to the fall, with the darker bundle placed where the surface holds moisture longest.

Facades, cladding and wall capping

1200x600 mm and 1800up x 600up mm units of Nero Santiago granite fixed as exterior cladding and coping, where the absence of a directional figure lets a run be set without matching a pattern across panels.

Commercial flooring and high-traffic interiors

Airport, mall and station flooring in honed or polished G302, where the abrasion class of a granite rather than the surface shine is what carries the traffic.

FAQ

Everything You Want To Know

nero santiago granite

01. Why does a second container of Nero Santiago granite read lighter than the first?

Because G302 has no pigment to match against, and the flamed+brushed tone depends on the burner and brush settings used that week. Bundles are finished in one batch, numbered and logged, so a repeat order is matched from the record.

02.  Is Nero Santiago granite a black granite?

No. Nero is Latin for black, but G302 is a mid-grey Chinese granite with an even dark and light speckle, sold also as Sesame Grey and Landscape Grey. Approve a sealed sample, not the name, before the order is placed.

03.  Does a flamed+brushed face stay slip resistant when it is wet?

The brush pass leaves the tooth the flame alone does not, and this finish is the normal choice for driveways and pool surrounds. Slip class is declared per project against a test standard, so send the standard your inspector works to.

04.  How much does a 20 ft container of G302 paving carry?

Weight, not volume, is the limit on this stone. At 2.7 g/cm3, 20 mm runs about 54 kg per m2 and 30 mm about 81 kg per m2, so the container is booked against payload rather than floor area, then crated on fumigated hardwood.

05.  What sets the cost of a Nero Santiago granite order?

Thickness and finish first, then module size, because small modules add both cutting and more crates for the same covered area. Batch size matters too, since one single-batch container avoids the matching work that a later top-up order creates on site.
