Product Introduction

Headstones with doves come down to one decision that is made before the stone is touched, and it is not the shape of the bird: a dove on a memorial is either raised out of the granite or cut into it as an image, and the two products fail in opposite directions. A hand-carved relief is real stone, three-dimensional, re-cuttable and permanent, but the carving removes the polish so the dove reads as a matte panel against a mirror face, and a recess on a vertical headstone is a place where rainwater and dirt sit and streak. A laser-etched dove is a halftone grey image burned into a polished dark face, which carries feather and eye detail a chisel cannot reach and leaves no recess to trap water, but it is an image rather than stone, it cannot be re-cut or re-polished, and it needs a black or dark grey ground because the same image on a light granite has almost no contrast.
Products Description
| Parameter | Specification |
|---|---|
| Product Name | Headstones with Doves; also quoted as a dove memorial headstone; brand YoYo Stone |
| Material | Impala black as the standard dove stone, with Shanxi Black, G654, Bahama Blue, Blue Pearl, Multicolor Red, Ruby Red, Aurora, Tan Brown and India Black available |
| Dove Treatment | Hand-carved relief, hand-carved sculpture, or a laser-etched image on a polished dark face; the choice decides the layout, the die section and the labour in the order |
| Relief Depth and Die Section | Depth follows the die section: a 50mm die takes a shallow panel, 100mm to 150mm takes a deep dove, and a hollow die takes none |
| Laser Etching | A halftone grey image cut into a polished dark face; it needs a black or dark grey ground to read, and it cannot be re-cut or re-polished afterwards |
| Sculpted Dove | A separate three-dimensional dove in white marble or a contrasting granite, pinned to the die with stainless dowels bedded in exterior epoxy |
| Standard Die Sizes | 600x400mm, 700x500mm and 900x600mm, with companion dies at 1200x500mm; any size factory customized against your drawing |
| Die Sections | 50mm, 75mm, 100mm and 150mm; the dove and the inscription are laid out together and the section is chosen from that layout |
| Lettering | Sandblasted or laser-etched to 3 to 5mm and hand-carved on request, filled in white, gold or silver, set out on the same drawing as the dove |
| Surface Finishes | Honed, flamed and brushed, polished, leather and sandblasted; a carved relief loses the polish and reads as a matte panel on the face |
| Colour and Shade | Impala Black and Shanxi Black take a mirror polish; the die, the base and any carved panel are supplied from one lot so the ground does not step |
| Base and Fixing | Base cut to the die and drilled to the foundation detail, with the die pinned down on stainless dowels bedded in exterior-grade epoxy |
| Layout and Proof | A full-size layout of the dove, the lettering and the margins is issued for approval before the die is carved or blasted |
| Tolerance | Die and base held to +/-1mm on length, width and thickness; relief depth to +/-0.5mm; lettering depth to +/-0.5mm |
| Density and Strength | Density 2.90 to 3.05 in g/cm3; absorption 0.05 to 0.20% by mass; 150 to 220 MPa compressive and 12 to 20 MPa flexural |
| Hardness | Mohs 6 to 7; the face takes weathering without spalling, and a chipped arris at a carved edge is the fault to expect |
| Main Markets | Russia, USA, UK and Germany |
| Packing | Foam and corner protection inside seaworthy strong wooden crates fumigated to ISPM 15, with the carved or etched panel faced inward and the crate marked by design |
| MOQ and Delivery | A full container is usual with mixed orders accepted; normally one container in 1 to 2 weeks and about 3 weeks for a mixed load |
| Payment and Port | T/T 30% deposit with 70% balance against B/L copy, or negotiation; FOB Xiamen port, China |
Quality Standards
Headstones with doves are decided in the first ten minutes of an order and corrected never, because the dove is either raised out of the stone or cut into it, and once the die has been carved or etched the choice is spent. One check below is that decision and the section it commits you to, and one is the layout that puts the dove and the inscription on one face without crowding. The last two are how a dove fails after the memorial is standing: a recess that holds water, and an arris at a carved edge that chips where no repair can be hidden.

01
The dove treatment, the stone and the section
The order is checked against the treatment chosen rather than against the photograph the client sent, since a relief carving, a sculpted dove and a laser-etched image each commit the job to a different stone and a different die.
02
One layout for the dove and the inscription
The dove and the lettering are set out together on a full-size drawing and approved before the die is carved, because the two compete for the same face and the position of the dove fixes the lettering height.
03
The recess, the arris and the water
A carved panel is a recess on a vertical face, so the relief is checked for depth consistency, for a floor that drains rather than holds, and for an arris that has not been left feathered.
04
Lot, sealing and the crate record
The die, the base, the carved panel and any lettered kerb are cut from one block lot, because two lots of Impala black that match on a sample board read as two greys on a standing memorial.
Products Application
Typical Project & Application Scenarios
Single memorials in a mown cemetery section
Headstones with doves on a single die, the carved bird set above the inscription on a base cut to the cemetery foundation detail, sized to the height limit the section sets above grass.
Companion and double plots
A wider die at 1200mm carrying one dove centred or two doves mirrored across the joint, so the pair presents as a single memorial rather than two stones standing side by side.

Pet memorials and garden remembrance stones
Smaller dies with a shallow relief dove, in Impala black or a lighter granite, used in gardens and remembrance areas where the memorial is read close to.
Family mausoleums and columbarium fronts
Carved dove panels set into a mausoleum face or a columbarium shutter, laid out with the inscription so the carving is not cut after the lettering.
FAQ
Everything You Want To Know

01. Should headstones with doves be hand carved or laser etched?
02. How deep can a dove be carved into a headstone die?
03. Why does a carved dove look duller than the polished headstone around it?
04. What drives the price of doves on tombstones?
05. How is a carved headstone packed so the dove arrives unchipped?
Foam and corner protection inside a seaworthy crate fumigated to ISPM 15, with the carved or etched panel turned inward and the crate marked by design. Feather edges and undercuts are the parts that chip, so they never face the crate wall.
