A 20mm top spans about 450 to 600mm unsupported; 12mm needs continuous support and a fibreglass mesh backing, because any run past 200 to 250mm is a fracture risk; and over about 1520mm long the top is quoted at 30mm. The stone is Italian, from Carrara in Tuscany, bought as first-hand block and selected for vein, because the value of a Calacatta Viola Marble Coffee Table sits in its burgundy and violet veining; a large top is bookmatched as a mirror pair so the veins meet.
