Product Introduction

A modern stone fountain has no moulding, no carving and no basin lip to hide behind, so what a visitor reads is either a flat plane or the line where the water leaves it. We cut them in G603 light grey and New G654 dark grey granite, out of quarry ground the company holds an interest in, with marble and basalt on request, because those two granites hold a polished plane outdoors with a water absorption of 0.18 and under 0.20 percent.
Two decisions settle whether the finished piece works: whether the lip is level and undercut so the sheet leaves the stone instead of clinging to the face, and whether the reservoir empties, because one block of stone with a blind floor inside it has nowhere to hide what is left. Sections are cut to your drawing and dry-assembled at the works, so the joints, the falls and the pipe route are all proved before anything is packed.

Quality Standards
A fountain is the only stone product on site that is accepted twice: once with the water running, and once with it drained. Running, the piece is judged on one line, the line where the sheet leaves the stone, because everything above and below that line is either a flat polished plane or a wet face.
Drained, it is judged on what is still standing inside it, which is a different reading entirely and is the one that decides whether the piece survives a winter.

01
Lip Level End To End
The blade lip is levelled over the whole run rather than at a single point, since a lip sitting 2 mm high at one end spreads the sheet into a wedge that any visitor reads as a fault.
02
Undercut Below The Lip
The undercut behind the lip is gauged before the face is finished, because without it the sheet follows the stone down instead of leaving it clean.
03
Sheet Read Running
Each unit is run with a test pump before it is crated, since a lip that reads straight on the bench can still break the sheet into droplets once the flow is on it.
04
Floor Read Drained
The reservoir floor is read after the water has been let out, because a hollow that holds 8 mm of water at the low point is exactly what lifts a paving joint at the first freeze.
Products Application
Typical Project & Application Scenarios
Sheer-Descent Blade Walls
A blade wall is a machined line with a sheet of water hanging off it, so the whole detail depends on the lip being level over its full length and undercut behind the edge.
Laminar Riser Jets And The Still Basin
A clear water rod needs still water and a short, low head, because any turbulence in the supply arrives at the orifice and the rod breaks into a spray before it is 300 mm high.

Drain-Down Before The First Frost
A modern piece has no basin lip to hide behind, so what freezes is whatever the shape holds after the valve is shut, and the damage shows up away from the water: a lifted paving joint, a slab rocking on its bed, a cored channel split along its line.
Setting A Polished Monolith
A 2000 mm polished block is set by crane onto a plinth that has to be level before the piece arrives, and a monolith levelled on four shims puts its whole weight on four small patches of arris.
FAQ
Everything You Want To Know

01. What makes a stone fountain read as modern rather than traditional?
02. Why does the water sheet cling to the wall instead of falling clear?
03. How do I get a smooth water rod rather than a spray?
04. Can a granite fountain stay outside through the winter?
05. How is the pump concealed and serviced on a monolith fountain?
The reservoir sits inside the base or below the paving, with the pump reached through a removable panel set flush in a joint. The access panel is detailed on the drawing, so the pump can be lifted without cutting stone later.
