Product Introduction
black galaxy floor tiles

Black Galaxy granite with gold flecks is quarried at Chimakurthy in Andhra Pradesh, India, and it is petrographically a gabbro-norite rather than a granite: the gold is bronzite, a pyroxene crystal locked into the black ground, not a coating and not a filler. That mineral fact sets the whole specification, because a bronzite fleck cannot fade, flake or rub off, and it sets the freight as well, since at 2,830 to 3,013 kg/m3 this is one of the heaviest stones we ship and a 20ft container runs out of payload long before it runs out of space.

Grade is the number that decides price, as it does on every black granite: Premium carries large, evenly spaced flecks on a uniform jet black ground with no visible lines, Good Commercial carries medium flecks with faint lines, and Commercial carries small scattered flecks and several lines, so the grade is written on our quotation and on the bundle label.

Quality Standards

Quality Control & Inspection Standards

YoYo Stone enforces a rigorous six-stage quality verification protocol for every commercial production run of white marble:

Fleck size and spread read against the grade sample

Slabs are stood up in daylight and compared with the sealed grade sample for fleck size, spacing and background depth, because Premium and Commercial are the same rock and differ only in those three readings.

01

Line and vein count

Water lines, the natural streaks that run through the body, are counted per slab, since Commercial grade is defined by having several and Premium by having none, and a line through a countertop blank is a rejected blank.

02

Cut-edge check for dye and resin

A cut face is inspected for black dye penetration and for resin-filled pits, because a dyed or resin-blackened black granite is sold into the same channel and shows itself at the first mitre or sink cutout. Bronzite flecks must run through the thickness, not sit on the surface.

03

Wet check for surface treatment

Slabs are wetted and re-read, since a sprayed sparkle finish on a low-grade black stone looks convincing dry and reads as a film when wet.

04

Gang saw cutting and calibration

Slabs are sawn on gang saw and calibrated to +/-1mm across the face, +/-0.5mm on calibrated orders, since a 20mm stone running 19.2mm shows at every joint in a 24x24 floor.

Products Application

Typical Project & Application Scenarios

Black Galaxy Granite With Gold Flecks Flooring

Hotel and commercial lobby floors

Black galaxy floor tiles at 12x12 and 24x24 in a honed or leather face, because a polished black floor in a lobby records every scuff, trolley mark and dust film within a season; entrance matting is written into the specification rather than left to the client.

Kitchen countertops, island tops and bar tops

Polished Black Galaxy granite with gold flecks at 20mm and 30mm, with eased, bevelled, bullnose or mitred edges, and at 0.05% water absorption this stone takes oil, wine and coffee without a sealer programme. The polished face is the point on a countertop, because the flecks read best when the surface is mirror flat.

Black Galaxy Granite With Gold Flecks Stairs

Stairs, risers and wall cladding

30mm treads with a honed or flamed face for grip, and slab cladding where a continuous dark ground is wanted; large-format cladding is quoted from one bundle so the fleck density reads consistently up a wall.

Bar tops and hospitality counters

A bar is the one place where the stone has to survive people rather than cooking. At 0.05% water absorption wine, spirits, citrus and coffee sit on the surface, and because this rock is a silicate gabbro-norite and not a carbonate, household acids do not etch it the way they etch a marble; the weak points on a black bar top are the resin-filled pits and the polish itself.

FAQ

Everything You Want To Know

black-galaxy-granite-with-gold-flecks

01. Is Black Galaxy granite with gold flecks really a granite, and does the gold fade?

It is a gabbro-norite, sold as granite, and the flecks are bronzite crystals locked in the rock, not a coating. That is why they cannot fade or rub off: the sparkle is mineral. Only a dyed or sprayed imitation loses it.

02. How do I tell a Premium bundle from Commercial before it ships?

Grade turns on three things: fleck size, line count and background depth. Premium has large, evenly spaced flecks with no visible lines; Commercial has small scattered flecks and several lines. We photograph the actual bundle and state the grade on the invoice.

03. Which finish should I specify for 12x12 Black Galaxy floor tiles?

Honed or leather, not polished, for a floor. A polished dark face shows every scratch, scuff and dust film, and it gets slippery wet. Polished is right for countertops, vanity tops and bar tops; honed and leather hold their appearance under foot traffic.

04. How many square metres of Black Galaxy fit in one 20ft container?

At 2,900 kg/m3 the 27 tonne payload is reached at about 466 square metres of 20mm slab, 310 square metres of 30mm, or 931 square metres of 10mm tile, before crate tare. It is a heavy stone, so loading is planned by weight.

05. Can Black Galaxy be used outdoors or in a wet area?

Yes, it is an igneous rock at 0.05% absorption, so frost and water do not reach it the way they reach a marble. Specify honed or flamed rather than polished outside, because a polished face shows water marks and loses slip resistance when wet.
